base

This months theme was patterns/prints.  I did 5 outfits and two shoes.  The first is a 60's inspired dress.  The second is a candy corn print sweater with plaid skirt.  Then a poncho top with matching skirt.  A flower print 1940's inspired gown and a polka dot top with cherry print skirt inspired by the 1950's finish off the gowns.  Two shoes include leopard print boots and polka dot heels.

Cut-Outs for Children

 this old newspaper doll is a bit rough around the edges and missing part of the bottom of the page.  I don't know much about her.  Cut-outs for Children is the name of the series.  The girl has 4 outfits and two hats, printed in blue and red ink.  No date on these, perhaps late 1910's early 1920's.

A Colored Cut-Out Toy

This newspaper paper doll is quite large. This is Olga.  She has 3 dresses, four hats, and three pairs of shoes. The square base for the shoes are quite unusual. The artist is Dan Rudolph.  This is from the Dramatic Section of the Cleveland News and Sunday News Leader. The papers has aged, but the colors are still vibrant, showing a red and blue dual color. No exact date on this one, just 1924.

Tillie Cutouts!

This panel is from a newspaper.  It's a bit sloppily cut, so part of the dress is cut off.  She has dark hair.  The dress she has ia long and red.  She has a matching hat with flower detail.  It is dated 7-28-1946.

Tillie the Toiler Fashin Parade

Here's a newspaper panel from the Tillie the Toiler  comic.  This one is dated 4-4-1937.  She as a red swimsuit (quite risque for the time) with a yellow hat and a yellow dress with green dot sleeves and skirt.  I don't believe the blue dress will fit her, but is an extra drawing.  Doll and Dress by Miss Wanda Secze Panska followed by the address.  Newspaper has discolored with age.

Boots Paper Doll

Over the summer, sometimes I got stuck at work waiting for a ride.  so while waiting, I began scanning some of my large binders of Newspaper paper doll sheets.  Above is Boots, dated from Sunday, April 19, 1936.  She has 6 lovely outfits in full color.  The text reads" By the way, this's getting to be the time of year when boots will need gobs of sports clothes"  She has a lovely yellow dress with with a collar and buttons, a green top with bow detail paired with a brown skirt, a striped yellow top with red sailor shorts, a purple dress with green bow, and two riding outfits (I think the blue one is for riding.  All are designed as if blowing in the wind, like her blonde hair. 

Tally cards

Two more tally cards from a vintage scrapbook.  These date around 1933.

Vintage Tally Cards

A while ago I purchased a beat up scrapbook from an antique store.  The scrapbook dated from around 1933.  It was falling apart, so it only cost about $15. I had to have it because it had tons of these lovely deco tally cards inside (and other fun things as well).  I did my best to remove them from the album, so the back of the tally cards are damaged, but the fronts are in pretty good shape.  The first one did not scan the best because of how thick the tassel was.  I will be posting more soon. 

Randy's costume Ball fashions

This single page  paper doll is from Katy Keene comic by Bill Woggon.  this one features Randy, a male with blonde hair.  Randy has four outfits and four hats, all costumes including Robin Hood and a prince.  This dates from 1950's.  love the colors.  I'm not the biggest fan of male paper dolls, so I don't have many, but I love costumes.

Marlene Dietrich

Here's another single page newspaper paper doll from the Movie Dressograph series published by the St Louis Dispatch.  This one features the celebrity Marlene Dietrich.  I don't believe I have ever seen another vintage paper doll set of her.  She has 3 outfits, one pair of gloves (to go with the first green dress), two hats, and a yellow collar.The page has discolored with age.  This is dated March 6, 1932.  She is so stylish, i would wear all three of these outfits today! The text reads:

"Marlene Dietrich

A different movie star will make his or her appearance in this space every week.  Accompanying will be three costumes this particular player wore in various roles she has played on screen.
Cut out the player and paste on cardboard.  then cut out the costumes.  Now dress the star in her proper outfits, being careful to assemble each costume correctly.
This week's star is Marlene Dietrich.  The three sets of costumes shown here were own by her in the these roles in the following movies:
Shanghai Lily in "Shanghai Express": X-27 in "Dishonored", and Amy Jolly in Morocco,".

Most of the Dressographs say about the same thing, with only the the last two paragraphs changed  for the name and roles, and the pronouns for the gender.  

August theme

base

almost forgot to post this!  August is long over and it's two weeks into September.  The theme for this month was Royalty.  I designed three dresses with three hairstyles in black and white.  The first dress is inspired by Maid Marian with bell sleeves and a circle metal belt.  The second dress is an empire waist with embroidery detail and puff sleeve detail.  The last is fantasy inspired.  Reposting, something caused an error on the page.

Traffic Spikes?

So I've noticed that this week twice now, my page views have had random spikes.  Over 300 page views at 4:00PM? And over 1000 on 9/5 at 3:00PM. I'm guessing a bot is hitting the site.  It does unnerve me a little...  No idea why this is happening.  I am pondering switching to WordPress or Wix or something else.  I am learning some web design, so I may be able to make my own webpage.

Outfit a Sophisticate

Outfit a Sophisticate (tm) is a large single sticker sheet paper doll.  This is from the Sandylion company and is labeled as maxi activity stickers.  It is dated on the back by the previous owner as being received in 1984.  The doll is wearing some lacy lingerie and comes with 3 tops, 3 skirts, 2 pairs of shoes, and lots of other accessories including a cute dog named Popcorn.  I believe I got this from the Paper Doll convention freebie table (or maybe I bought it, can't really remember). I believe this one is rather rare.

I've been a bit stressed lately so I may take another short break from the blog to focus on school work.

Little miss movie star at the celebrity celebration

This single page paper doll is from Doll Reader magazine, August/September 1985.  The paper doll was a souvenir for the U.F.D.C Sacramento 1982 convention, which the theme was celebrities.  The black and white paper doll was created by Fabricat Designs and also available as post cards and greeting cards.

Another crazy week. Wish life would settle down just a bit.

Sailor Moon Paper Doll

Wow, this has been a CRAZY week!  School has started, but my classes seem manageable.  What a weird and crazy week.  Long story short: there was a job I wanted to get really badly.  One of my coworkers left, and I applied.  However, my boss needed me Mondays, and because of school- I can't work Mondays.  a bit disappointing...  And then, I got an interview for a different job.  Not sure if I'll get it, but just... a lot to juggle.

Anyway, moving on from personal stuff...  The latest OPDAG Paper Doll Studios magazine came out, another great issue, highly recommend! This theme was TV Shows.  I submitted the below design, but it didn't make the issue (possible email glitch) and may be in the next issue.

For the TV theme, I decided to do a Sailor Moon paper doll.  The Sailor Moon anime cartoon was a vital part of my childhood.  I religiously watched this show on TV.  I did use a reference for the base to help match the style of the anime show.  Sailor Moon character was created by Naoko Takeuchi and the show was made by Toei Animation and dubbed by DIC for the American Audience.  The show was on Cartoon Network as part of Toonami, which included other anime favorites.  I drew the main character, Usagi/Serena/Bunny (name changes in dubbed versions!) with her first season Sailor Moon senshi uniform and her summer and winter school uniforms.  

Obvisouly I do not own Sailor Moon.  Here's the image I used as a reference for the doll, found on Pinterest.  I wanted to do more outfits, such as her Princess costume, but just don't have the time and have other projects to work on.
