The Little Fairy Paper Dolls

This book has absolutely gorgeous art and may be one of my favorite uncut sets of children that I own.  It is 6 pages with 4 dolls, 2 on the front and 2 on the back.  This book is from Merrill and is dated 1951.  the set is called The Little Fairy Paper Dolls and features Pink Fairy, Green Fairy and Little Girl and Little Boy.  Each page features about 2 costumes with hats and lovely accessories.

Collaborative Project 2019 Feburary

The second month of the Paper Doll Collaborative Project 2018! This month's theme was Award Season.  I don't watch anything but the red carpet, and I haven't done that in years since I don't have cable anymore.  The first dress is inspired by a gown I see often on the carpet, a dramatic mermaid, usually in a bold color.  This one was inspired by this dress here.  The seconds dress was originally a ball gown, but would not fit on the page. So I changed it to a short vintage inspired gown with beading.   The last gown was a cape and gown.  Three hairstyles are included.

Movie Dressographs Maureen O'Sullivan

Here's another newspaper sheet from the Movie Dressographs sseries published in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.  This one is Maurren O'Sullivan and includes 3 outfits along with hats and accessories.  She has a bit of tape on her arm.  this is dated April 9, 1933.  It is yellowed with age, as is common with newspaper

Molly Mouse

This magazine page is from Children's Activities. It features a mouse character named Molly along with 3 items to wear and some accessories.  It is black and white to be colored. the artist is Diane Allen and the date is October 1947.  on the side is an ad for underwear and Lincoln logs.

Happy Valentine's Day card

 Above is a 3 page Valentine's Day card I designed.  I used the same base as my Christmas doll here,  The fashion doll is based on Mattel's Barbie and most all of her outfits are inspired by Valentine's Barbie dolls.  I made more mix and match options for her.  The cover says "Happy Valentine's Day" and then "A Paper Doll Just For You".  The doll has some accessories on the cover such as hats, and Valentine's gifts. The back cover has four dresses, a purse, and a bouquet of flowers.  The next page features 3 dresses, a purse, and three shoes followed by 1 dress, 2 tops, a skirt and some shoes along with more Valentine's accessories.  The inspired page features 3 tops and four skirts, 1 more dress, another pair of shoes and one last purse.  The inside says "You're Always Fashionable  Be My Valentine!"  This would be folded in half and  stapled together to make a card.

Richard Arlen Movie Dressograph

Your Dress And Dolly's

This single page paper doll is from Child Life magazine and is dated January 1930.  The doll has a doll of her own, along with dresses for her and her doll. It includes pattern numbers for the outfits shown.

cuarto amiguitas en vacaciones

This single sheet paper doll called Recortables Bruguera possibly from 1959 by possibly an artis Bombon,  the title cuarto amiguitas en vacaciones translates to roughly four little children on vacation.  The set includes four cut out dolls with about two outfits per doll and some hats. These are most likey from Spain or Mexico.

Kellogg's Krumbles was a cereal that no longer exist (as far as I know).  This is from the back of the box and features two cut out figures with traditional outfits from Spain.  The boy has 1 outfit with a hat.  The girl has two outfits. It says "This country is our next door neighbor to the South.  The Mexicans have many colorful and graceful native dances."  This Box seems to be in full color.  These are from around the 1940s.

Nora and Tilly Our Cut-Out Dolls

This paper doll sheet is from Woman and Home magazine, dated August 1956.  It features two girls who are twin sisters (I believe) and includes a little story.  Each doll has one floral print dress with some wild flower bouquets.

Lucille Makes Her Garden

This newspaper panel is from the artist Laura Brock features a doll named Lucile along with one dress and hat.  I believe this is from the Seattle Star newspaper.  This is dated 4-23 but does not state a year, sometime in the early 1930s.  The newspaper has yellowed with age. 

Collaborative Project 2019

How exciting, the first month of a new Paper Doll Collaborative Project! The doll base was drawn by Rachel Cohen of Paper Thin Personas and modified by me, Melissa Smith.  The first month's theme was something I chose, Trends of 2019.  In other words, things we predict will be trendy this year.  I don't keep up with fashion much, but I thought it might be fun topic of exploration.  The first outfit includes asymmetrical cut-outs, something I noticed late December in tops, and palazzo pants, something I never wear because I'm short.  Finishing the outfit are kitten heels.  The second outfit includes two trends I've noticed in tops, ruffled sleeves and crop tops.  Why not a combo of both for the new year?  And the pants are a dream, I want pockets to come back in style, lots of pockets like painter pants. I'm tired of pants without pockets! I paired them with some ankle boots (always trendy) Lastly is a trend featuring feathers, actually based on this top here, along with some skinny jean legging type pants.  Finished off with strapy heels.  For the hairstyles I went with classic styles that are always coming and going, such as a bob (with fringe earrings), naturally curly hair, and the short Mia Farrow type cut (accented with feather earrings).
