100 days 2019 now in color

Often times, I NEVER get around to coloring things.  So here's a quick color of 100 days project from last year, since I'm working on another 100 day challenge for this year.  This year, however, after day 50 I will be coloring the pages.  Anyway to see the black and white versions, click  here.  I made two dolls they can share clothing but a few pairs of shoes are specific to each doll because of the different skin tones.  Some mix and match outfits and some full outfits in different styles including lolita, decora, vintage, punk, steampunk and goth.

St Patrick's Day Barbie Card

I used the same base I used for my Christmas card here and Valentine's Day card here.  Fold each page in half, and staple together to make a card.  There are eight outfits total with a few matching hats.  Most are base on actual Barbies but some are made up (rainbow shirt and clover dress)  The front says Happy St. Patrick's Day, A Paper Doll Just for you and the inside says "Wishing You Luck on St. Patrick's Day"

Collaborative Project 2019 April Fandom/Cosplay

base
Can you believe it's almost MAY! Been very busy with school, almost over only two weeks left.  Above is my very crowded page of clothing for this months theme.  I did a lot of mix and match pages.  For fandom, I decided to focus on graphic tees and printed bottoms of popular fandoms such as: Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC comics, Mario(video game leggings), My little Pony (looks bootleg) and a Sailor Moon inspired print skirt.  for the cosplay outfit, I chose the character Sakura from Card Captor Sakura anime.

Please note I will be signing all my art as Melissa Pepe now.

100 Days 4-5

Continuing the 100 days project an Instragram challenge to do something crafty each day.  So I do have an Instragram @missmissypaperdolls.  Here is day 4 and day 5.  A pair of cute shoes, I forgot to change pens for the detail.  And a heart shaped bow purse, cut out the middle and the doll will be able to hold it.

100 Day Project

So many of my fellow paper doll blogger friends (Paper Thin Personas and Paper Doll School) have started the 100 Day Project, an Instragram challenge to do something crafty each day.  So I do have an Instragram @missmissypaperdolls but I haven't quite actually figured out how to use it.  My phone is old and too full of storage for more apps so I'm going to try and install into onto my tablet so I can post the project there with all the hashtags and such.  I've gotten behind on Social Media and just recently joined Instragram and Twitter but have yet to really use them at all.  Here is Day 1.  I will do my best to keep up but may not be able to post progress every day.

April Fool

Above is a very quick pantin jointed paper doll inspired by old French clowns.  This April Fool comes with joined arms and legs as well as head.  Please use small brads to assemble, 9 are needed in total.  Best if printed on heavy cardstock.  I chose primary bright colors.

Collaborative Project 2019 March Sweet Style

base
The third month of the Paper Doll Collaborative Project 2019! This month's theme was Sweet Style, fashion inspired by food.  I have a whole pinterest board here for sweet inspired fashion and hair.  The first top left dress is a cupcake.  The one under it is an ice cream sprinkle top with waffle cone skirt.  The hair inspired by Sweetie Belle from My little pony, with a cherry on top.  the next dress is inspired by a mix of Lollipop Princess from Candy Land and Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon.  under it is a pair of boots with icing and cherry accent.  The next pair of shoes is a candy stripe with whip cream accent worn with bow socks.  next is Sailor Moon inspired hair with candy bows.  The last outfit is a candy bow sailor collar with peplum and candy stripe pencil skirt.  I imagine this would be red and white.

Please note I will be signing all my art as Melissa Pepe now.

Collaborative Project 2019 Feburary

base
The second month of the Paper Doll Collaborative Project 2018! This month's theme was Award Season.  I don't watch anything but the red carpet, and I haven't done that in years since I don't have cable anymore.  The first dress is inspired by a gown I see often on the carpet, a dramatic mermaid, usually in a bold color.  This one was inspired by this dress here.  The seconds dress was originally a ball gown, but would not fit on the page. So I changed it to a short vintage inspired gown with beading.   The last gown was a cape and gown.  Three hairstyles are included.

Collaborative Project 2019

How exciting, the first month of a new Paper Doll Collaborative Project! The doll base was drawn by Rachel Cohen of Paper Thin Personas and modified by me, Melissa Smith.  The first month's theme was something I chose, Trends of 2019.  In other words, things we predict will be trendy this year.  I don't keep up with fashion much, but I thought it might be fun topic of exploration.  The first outfit includes asymmetrical cut-outs, something I noticed late December in tops, and palazzo pants, something I never wear because I'm short.  Finishing the outfit are kitten heels.  The second outfit includes two trends I've noticed in tops, ruffled sleeves and crop tops.  Why not a combo of both for the new year?  And the pants are a dream, I want pockets to come back in style, lots of pockets like painter pants. I'm tired of pants without pockets! I paired them with some ankle boots (always trendy) Lastly is a trend featuring feathers, actually based on this top here, along with some skinny jean legging type pants.  Finished off with strapy heels.  For the hairstyles I went with classic styles that are always coming and going, such as a bob (with fringe earrings), naturally curly hair, and the short Mia Farrow type cut (accented with feather earrings).

Make sure to check out the other blogs/artist participating and see what great outfits and trends they have drawn!

Unfinished Project: Mom

This project started out as a mother's day paper doll.  The idea was to make a base with changeable heads inspired by vintage housewives.  The outfits were going to be days of the week (baking, mending, washing, ect) but I never finished the project.  I thought it relied too much on tracing and decided not to finish it.  Here's the base and heads I did finished, (planned on seven) followed by the references I used (all from pinterest)
